Books and movies

I feel like my blog so far is about two things. Vacations (or mini-vacays) and Ben's bread. Does anyone else out there feel the same way? Good. So, I really like to watch movies and read so now you get to know what I watch and read! Lucky you. Anyway, so the book I've been reading lately is called I Was Vermeer: The Rise and Fall of the Twentieth Century's Greatest Forger by Frank Wynn. This book is about Han Van Meegeren who apparently was a famous art forger.

Anyway, so Ben and I had this discussion that if anyone could forge a painting to look like a master, then did it really matter who painted it? I say yes, Ben said no (of course.) Very interesting book, especially if you like biographies (which I do.)

A movie that I just saw was Martian Child with John Cusack. Cute movie, but did anyone else think that this kid really was a Martian or am I just really gullible?

Anyone else read or seen anything good?

ha! Nice subtle link there...
Ummm...my argument with the masters is that they are considered masters for pioneering a certain style or type of art. They were trend starters. Believe it or not, some were considered front page radicals for painting the way they did.
Of course others will follow in their footsteps and even excel in their abilities, but the recognition is given to those that started the trend in the first place.
Ok, like the novel I just typed?

Yeah, that's the argument I gave Ben but he was arguing for the painting not for the artist. I don't think you can separate the painting from the artist. Ben is so objective.

Leilani,
I'm bad about reading, but that books sounds great. I love biographies, add art and I just might read it. I be you guys get tons of free books. Our collection of churchie books is building.

Helena, I wish we got free books, that would be great. I always wanted a library....but it's not very cost effective with a public library down the street. That's nice you get free books! I love biographies too. It's been hard to get back into books but now I can't put them down and end up going to sleep super late. doh.
